SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES
Clear Lake Gem & Mineral Society, Inc. February 2025
Purpose: To fund courses in Geology, Mineralogy, Geophysics or Paleontology at any accredited university or college as part of a course of studies in Earth Sciences. Amount: $2,000 each (Subject to change). In 2024 we had 6 applicants and the 4 winners received $2,000 each. In 2023 we had 11 applicants and the 5 winners received $2,000 each. In 2022 we had 11 applicants and the 6 winners received $2,000 each. In 2021 we had 3 applicants and the 3 winners received $2,000 each. We had 2 years where nobody applied.
We encourage people to apply early. Now is a good time. You can send in an updated transcript later if needed.

Eligibility: An eligible applicant must be:
(1.) A Senior in any
Secondary School (High School) who lives and attends school in the USA and will be entering college and majoring in
any Earth Science; or
(2.) A student in good standing who lives in the USA and who is already
enrolled in an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university and is in an
established course of study towards a degree in Earth Sciences.
Applicants must:
(1.) Complete the application and sign it. (pdf)

(2.) Supply a recent transcript.
(3.) Supply one, signed letter of
recommendation.
(4.) Write a 500 - 1,000 word essay (which will be
published in the Club newsletter) on why you want to major in the Earth
Sciences, and/or the applicants history in the earth sciences, and/or what the
scholarship would be used for, and/or the applicant's overall goal in this
course of study.
(5.) If awarded the scholarship, sign an acceptance form that permits CLGMS
to publish pictures of the recipient in our newsletter and on our website.
Scholarship Announcement: The scholarship availability will be announced in the Club Newsletter, Stoney Statements prior to award. Copies of the newsletter may be distributed to academic advisors at area secondary schools or college/university at the discretion of the Scholarship Chairman. Decisions of the Awards will be announced at the next appropriate General Meeting.
Application Deadline: Applications must be received prior to the 5/1/2025 deadline. Again, applications received prior to end of day 4/30/2025 (prior to 5/1/2025 at 00:00 hrs central time) will be judged and the winners will be awarded scholarship checks in or around July, 2025. Late applications may be considered for the next year. E-mail submissions will be accepted. Applications will be directed to the Scholarship Committee. Please note that if you choose to snail mail the application materials it must be postmarked 4/30/2024 or earlier and received by end-of-day 5/6/2024 to be considered for the current year. Any delays in mail delivery beyond 5/6/2025 will push your application to next year's scholarship. Many years we have people wait until the last minute and then learn that things don't go as planned.
Judging of Applications: Applications will be judged by the Scholarship Committee and approved by the club members at the next general club meeting.
Scholarship Chairman: An appointed or volunteer member of the CLGMS who has no family ties or financial ties with the applicants.
